Old mattresses tend to attract millions of dust mites which cause many different types of allergies. It’s not something to be taken lightly given that about 20 million Americans are believed to end up with some kind of allergy every year.

A good thing to do here is to buy a mattress protector when buying a new mattress, which will protect your mattress much longer from those tiny dust mites.

Back Pain

While an old mattress leading to back pain is not surprising, even a brand new one can end up causing the same problem for you.

This is especially true if you go with something like an ultra-plush mattress, which is linked to back pain issues over a period of time. It’s because these mattresses may not offer the kind of support your body needs.

This is also the reason it’s recommended to test a mattress before buying.

Perpetual Fatigue

A good mattress should make you feel relaxed and energetic after a night’s sleep on it. But if you feel fatigued or tired when waking up, something may be wrong with your mattress.

Most old mattresses offer a much poorer quality of sleep than their newer counterparts.

Lumps and Pain

If you feel pain in the lower part of your body, it may be due to the lumps forming on your mattress. These lumps are often a part of a mattress’ wear and tear, and an indicator that it’s time to replace it.
